| Ocean Rescue Summer Surf Camp |
| Registration is underway for the Ocean Rescue Surf Camp, designed to teach the young surfer proper technique, safety awareness and ocean education.The cost of the camp is $150 per session (week). The fee includes the use of city-owned surfboards, plus a rash guard for the participant to keep.There will be eight one-week sessions, beginning June 13, with the last session starting July 25. Each session runs Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM, and meets daily at the Deerfield Beach North Beach Pavilion, just north of the International Fishing Pier. The camp is taught by Ocean Rescue staff and features all lifeguard-trained and certified instructors, some having over twenty years of experience. Your child’s safety is our number one concern, which is why we have one instructor per five participants.The camp is open to children ages 7 – 13 who are competent swimmers. Activities will include surf instruction, ocean and ecological awareness activities, snorkeling, waverunner rides, beach games and a pizza lunch every Friday. Participants should bring sun block, a bathing suit and a towel. Registration is ongoing at Pioneer Park, 217 NE 5th Avenue. Say “Aloha!” to the legendary surfer Kali ‘da Big Kahuna’ (NSSIA – Master Certified Surfing Instructor, Duke Kahanamoku’s Last Student and nominated as a Cultural Living Treasure in Surfing, State of Florida) and get a few pointers on hanging ten. Participate in a FREE Surf Lessons 101 seminar and obtain your Certificate of Completion.

Learn about Seat Turtle nesting, diet and migration while getting an up-close look at resident Sea Turtle “MJ” during this informative show.

Grab a fishing pole and try your luck at catching the Big One in the Discovery Center. Once you snag one learn about sizes and types of fish that should be released to keep our oceans healthy.

Andy Royston will share tips on capturing spectacular ocean photographs with your camera phone and share stories about the creatures he captures in his images.
